Hello all! I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is just over a week away! That came fast! A dear friend asked if I would make a card for her to give to her husband, to express how extremely grateful she is to him. Her requirements were basic and included any and everything fall. So, after much back-and-forth, I settled upon Neat & Tangled's super cute My Favorite Nut stamp set. These little squirrels are simply adorable, and the sentiments worked well for this card, although mostly designated for Valentine's Day.
I stamped the image in Copic safe ink (My Favorite Things hybrid ink - Black Licorice) and began shading my heart out!
I used the following Copic marker colors:
Acorn: E29 E47 E08 E35 E53
Leaves: G85 G94
Squirrels: W7 W5 W3 W1 R20
LOTS of shading! :) I used the darkest brown to add cross-hatch marks on the top of the acorn to give the look of texture. I laid down my lightest gray, W1, all over the squirrels as a base and to assist with blending in the darker shades. For the squirrels' faces, I carefully flicked the shades, from darkest to light, downward from the tops of their heads to their face. I did a dab of pink, R20, on the smaller squirrel's cheeks and a touch in their ears.
I used a very colorful autumn themed paper from Lawn Fawn's Sweater Weather paper pad (I believe it is retired), and mounted a cream colored paper on top with foam tape. Both layers were cut with Simon Says Stamp Postage Stamp Edge Frames (man, I use these a lot!). Since my friend requested using the word "grateful", I thankfully had this beautiful script word die from My Favorite Things. I cut from a warm taupe scrap and mounted it on another, thicker layer of cardstock to give it more stability and structure. I laid out the images to determine where to stamp "for you" from the same stamp set. I did have to mask the rest of the sentiment, but that was easy enough. I used the oh, so wonderful VersaFine Black Onyx ink for the text and assembled! I added "You are my FAVORITE" from the set inside, and that finished the card!
I think the card is precious, and I hope her husband can see that his wife (and my sweet friend) is SO very grateful for him!
